Providing emotional and physical comfort
When a patient comes to NHC HealthCare, Chattanooga because of a terminal illness with life expectancy of a year or less, we turn to Hospice of Chattanooga, the communities oldest, largest, not-for-profit hospice provider. Hospice is a special kind of care designed to provide sensitivity and support for people in the final phase of life. Their mission is to offer comfort and dignity to patients and families through comprehensive support and medical care. Hospice care seeks to enable a patient to carry on an alert, pain-free life and to manage other symptoms so that their last days may be spent with dignity, quality, and grace. They strive to meet all the patient's needs: physical, emotional, social, and spiritual as well as the needs of the family.
Within our health care center, Hospice of Chattanooga provides comprehensive support through a physician, nursing care, social services, chaplain services, volunteers and bereavement counseling. These services are provided in addition to those provided by our NHC staff. Hospice of Chattanooga is considered to be specialist in end-of-life care with a full-time medical director and full-time physicians on staff who are certified in palliative care medicine. For patients who are faced with a terminal illness, hospice services enable the patient to live as fully and comfortably as possible.
